New Global Trends in Commercial Restroom Design
Sponsored By Excel Dryer, Inc.
Presented By Paul Marquez
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)
1 GBCI General Hour
1 IDCEC HSW CEU(s)

This course explores the evolving landscape of commercial restroom design, highlighting the most significant changes and innovations of recent years.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Evaluate post-pandemic perceptions of commercial restrooms—based on a global survey of architects, facility managers, and restaurant operators—and identify emerging design priorities across stakeholder groups.
  2. Analyze innovative restroom products designed to minimize touchpoints and reduce germ transmission, and assess their impact on occupant health, safety, and overall user experience.
  3. Identify restroom products that contribute to building performance certifications such as LEED and WELL, and explain how specific product attributes align with sustainability and wellness criteria.
  4. Examine the environmental impact of building material choices during the use phase, and demonstrate how strategic product selection can generate long-term operational savings and improve occupant well-being.
  5. Apply lessons from real-world case studies to illustrate how product selection supports project goals, including cost efficiency, environmental performance, and alignment with client sustainability objectives.

Differentiated Performance and Long-Life Architectural Coatings
Sponsored By Arkema, Inc.
Presented By Ron Partridge
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)

Building owners have come to rely on weatherable coatings to provide long-term protection to their buildings. With an increased focus on sustainability, performance, and durability, PVDF resin-based coatings can help architects and painting contractors exceed their clients’ design goals.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the ways PVDF resin-based coatings, both water based and solvent based, provide a consistent, pristine appearance while achieving durability goals over a variety of substrates as demonstrated in applicable case studies.
  2. Discuss why some coatings fail and the important considerations when selecting a coating system for an application, including weathering performance, longevity, and application method.
  3. Discuss the standards of performance for architectural coatings and recognize why PVDF coating technology outperforms other coating technologies. Discuss the standards of performance for architectural coatings and recognize why PVDF coating technology outperforms other coating technologies.
  4. Explain how water-based PVDF coatings, by their chemistry and performance, can help design professionals and building owners achieve their sustainability goals.

Elevate Your Outdoors: The Art of Designing Functional Living Spaces
Sponsored By Wolf Home Products
Presented By Jason Foura
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)

Overview of the outdoor living space and materials used in outdoor living design. Material selection, care and design, will be discussed, and common misconceptions will be addressed.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand the evolution of the outdoor living market. Discuss how new materials have longer sustainability on life cycle costs and how wood and older materials have continued to create maintenance issues and if not maintained can create safety issues with Code related materials on decking and railing.
  2. Address trends and materials used in outdoor living spaces. Trends are moving toward more Aluminum railing items. Some competitors don’t have IRC and IBC coded materials in the field.
  3. Apply standard design principles and how they relate to outdoor living spaces. Many of the design principles relate to safety because of life cycle maintenance as well as improper flashing and installation that lead to unsafe building practices.
  4. Identify and explain common misconceptions and safety issues in designing outdoor living spaces. Decking today has many options when it comes to installation and using the proper installation hardware. We review all code rulings for decking and railing.
  5. Explain proper use and care of outdoor living spaces and how to avoid them for extended performance. We review how some chemicals can harm the decking material and which products can be safely used to provide a non-toxic method to maintaining the life of your deck and rail material. Some products can react to PVC and cause issues to the capstop.
