Fortified Design: Enhancing Building Security Against Ballistic, Forced Entry and Blast Threats
Sponsored By Armortex
Presented By Rick Snelling
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)

In this one-hour course, design professionals will explore advanced blast, forced entry and ballistic-resistant technologies aimed at ensuring comprehensive protection for lives, assets, and buildings.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Assess the range of innovative resistance technologies designed to safeguard occupants and assets from threats such as ballistic, forced entry, and blasts.
  2. Investigate the standards organizations responsible for developing criteria and testing methods for resistance technologies, evaluating their effectiveness in protecting lives and securing buildings during blast or ballistic incidents.
  3. Examine the engineering behind panels, windows, doors, and other physical security products designed to enhance durability and safety against threats to life, buildings, and assets.
  4. Utilize insights from case studies to apply knowledge of anti-ballistic, forced entry and blast technology, showcasing products that offer robust protection and comprehensive security.

Transforming Outdoor Community Design: The Impact of Architectural Formliners
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)
1 GBCI General Hour

Enriching community spaces with architectural art in everyday places. Join us for this one-hour course on architectural plastic, semi-elastomeric, and urethane form liners. Taking traditionally flat, uninspired structural spaces, form liners bring immense value through cultural, historical and naturescape art possibilities.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Establish the benefits of customizable architectural form liners, establishing the contributions they make to community, culture and landscape projects.
  2. Investigate aesthetic functionality of architectural form liners including the best practices, design process and transformative artistic possibilities.
  3. Discover how architectural form liners contribute to noise reduction, end user safety and landscape and community design standards.
  4. Appraise case studies related to the architectural form liners to determine their usability in landscape design projects and specification.

Elevate Your Outdoors: The Art of Designing Functional Living Spaces
Sponsored By Wolf Home Products
Presented By Jason Foura
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)

Overview of the outdoor living space and materials used in outdoor living design. Material selection, care and design, will be discussed, and common misconceptions will be addressed.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand the evolution of the outdoor living market. Discuss how new materials have longer sustainability on life cycle costs and how wood and older materials have continued to create maintenance issues and if not maintained can create safety issues with Code related materials on decking and railing.
  2. Address trends and materials used in outdoor living spaces. Trends are moving toward more Aluminum railing items. Some competitors don’t have IRC and IBC coded materials in the field.
  3. Apply standard design principles and how they relate to outdoor living spaces. Many of the design principles relate to safety because of life cycle maintenance as well as improper flashing and installation that lead to unsafe building practices.
  4. Identify and explain common misconceptions and safety issues in designing outdoor living spaces. Decking today has many options when it comes to installation and using the proper installation hardware. We review all code rulings for decking and railing.
  5. Explain proper use and care of outdoor living spaces and how to avoid them for extended performance. We review how some chemicals can harm the decking material and which products can be safely used to provide a non-toxic method to maintaining the life of your deck and rail material. Some products can react to PVC and cause issues to the capstop.

Designing for Sound Control: Effective, GREEN, Principles and Practices
Sponsored By Homasote
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)
1 GBCI General Hour

In this one-hour course, design professionals will gain practical knowledge of effective principles of sound control to specify optimal sound control strategies in the design of wall and floor/ceiling assemblies that best fit each project’s needs.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss the qualifications and benefits of wall and floor assemblies when designed for sound attenuation
  2. Review the principles of sound management as it pertains to specific types of assemblies
  3. Describe sound control strategies that are particular to common wall and floor/ceiling assemblies
  4. Examine sound control design methods for walls and floors using sustainable, mold-resistant cellulosic fiberboards made from recycled materials
